Australian designers Romance Was Born kicked off the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week with one hell of a bang yesterday at Sydney’s State Library. Showcasing their trademark style in the form of their spring/summer collection ‘The Oracle’, guests were treated some serious glamour and innovative designs from the local duo.

You would have been hard pressed to find a guest who wasn’t blown away by the show and raving about it afterwards, including the likes of Australian Hollywood royalty Cate Blanchett who is a longterm fan of the designs of Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales.

PLAY were in attendance with sponsors Sally Hansen whose nail designs were featured on all the models.

Having worked with the Romance Was Born team for several months, Sally Hansen created a look to match the stunning designs featured in the collection.

“We liked how much you could customise your look with Sally Hansen products” says Anna Plunkett, “there was so much colour to choose from.”

The final four looks selected were a combination of clear, sharp colours and futuristic half moons shapes, designed specifically to compliment the collection. Sally Hansen and Romance Was Born; a new fashion match made in heaven.

Hailing from the south of England I have spent most of my life enjoying the beauty that is a white Christmas. Sitting by a log fire with hot chocolate, snowball fights with my family, ski-ing in Europe and all the usual snow based merriment but here I am on Christmas eve-eve in Sydney, with the air-con turned up to the max and surrounded by summer dresses and flip flops (sorry – thongs!).

I am determined to get into the festive spirit somehow, so it seems I need some Christmassy inspiration from somewhere. Surely I don’t need to be knee-deep in snow to achieve this? Not on your nelly!

So for all of you who haven’t quite reached the appropriate level of Christmas excitement yet, check out these links, reach for the egg nog and get ready to be more Christmassy than a tinsel covered mince pie – HAPPY CHRISTMAS ALL!

u2 690x300 A memorable night for me... Was it for U2?

Tuesday 14 December 2010 – 7 excited fans (from varying generations) embarked on a journey to the land of Homebush to attend potentially the concert of the year! Destination – U2 360 tour with an impressive supporting act Jay Z (Beyonce’s hubby & music producer extraordinaire/musician). Upon arrival we were given the opportunity to be a rock star – with props and all: Impressive, no? New PLAY band?

Cue Jay Z – I could not keep my bottom on my seat. He got the crowd pumping and there was some serious crumping moves happening around me! Very ghetto people – well done!

Please take note of the production – WOW WOW WOW – On the journey there we were discussing the first concert we ever attended. I’m pretty sure as a child I attended a show where props included cardboard cut out trees, cellophane fire  and a washing basket for a turtle shell. This one definitely blew that one out of the water!
The reason why we were all there… U2…

U2 have been around longer than I have been around and boy can they sing – they kept all 80,000 of us off of our seats singing along – although I didn’t know some of the old school lyrics… Here’s a trick someone taught me on the night – apparently if you say rhubarb over and over again you look like your singing the correct lyrics, so I did.
A leather jacket with lasers, a floating wheel microphone and amazing graphics… The night had to come to an end but not without Bonno plucking one girl out of the 80,000 strong audience to serenade her – jealous much?

The night was amazing and well worth the 20min free train ride home – but it would have been nice if there were some magical pods to transport us all home. Maybe next time they’ll have a budget for that!
